Survivor Otter Creek (2004) - I was a co-founder/producer of, and director of photography for, a large-scale amateur video project named Survivor Otter Creek. A description of the project follows.
Survivor Otter Creek was a four day experience designed for sixteen Ontario youth, and was held in July 2004. Not only did these teens and young adults have fun, but they truly tested their physical, intellectual and emotional limits as they fought their way through up to seven challenges and five tribal councils per day. The Survivor game experienced by these youth was not only an incredibly authentic re-creation of CBS Survivor, but was and still is, the closest a Canadian can hope to come to starring on the hit American TV series. Survivor Otter Creek is also an amateur video production, striving for authenticity while introducing a unique Canadian perspective.
As a co-producer and director of photography, I was involved with every stage of the planning process, which began seven months before production took place. Procuring property to film on, materials to construct challenges and sets, and equipment to film with were initial challenges. The schedule, coverage in the media, a web site, challenge design, orientation materials and consent forms for participants and their parents were also key to the project’s success.
During the production, myself and the rest of the crew worked 20 hour days setting up, tearing down and making sure everything and everyone, arrived when and where needed, indeed no small logistical task.
Seven months of preparation culminated in four well-planned days of event that will never be forgotten by those present.
Technical Direction - I have served as a technical consultant and camera operator for various other video projects.
